I asked Oleg his thoughts on this recently, and he said that he doesn't remove serial numbers on pictures of his guns. I would at least show an approximate serial number (ie, 567XXXX). I think posting the serial number in the auction detail itself could be construed as undesirable by the (winning) bidder, who may have privacy concerns - ie, THEY might not want people to know what the serial number is, even if you don't care. I went and removed the number, but thinking again about it, I'm not sure why I did this. The Obliterated Serial Number Program allows law enforcement agencies to identify recovered firearms whose origins have been masked by serial number destruction or alteration.
I get and understand the decision to stop doing direct sales, but they could have kept the database online so people could at least look up their gun and get proper part numbers to order from another supplier. I was contacted by my buddy who noted that I recently posted a high-res image of my Valtro with the serial number intact. They really arent setup or staffed to provide direct customer sales as was the whole point of the S/N lookup and online parts system.
